CERTAIN 2018
Maximizing Patient Outcomes in the Acute Care Setting: The CERTAIN Approach
Course Directors: Yue Dong, M.D., Rahul Kashyap, M.B.B.S., Alexander Niven, M.D.
Implementation of best acute care practices to drive safety and quality improvements remains challenging in many healthcare systems. The CERTAIN (Checklist for Early Recognition and Treatment of Acute Illness and iNjury) program offers healthcare teams a validated, bedside decision support tool to standardize best approaches to evaluation and treatment of acutely ill patients.
This course provides participants an interactive opportunity to learn the CERTAIN approach, including hands on, simulation based training. Participants will also learn from the practical experience of an international group of faculty experts, who have implemented this program in intensive care units (ICUs) across five continents over the past 3 years.
Other specific topics will also include effective application of information technology, peer collaboration, implementation science tools and change management strategies to provide participants with the information and tools to maximize the opportunity to successfully implement this program in their clinical practice.
- CERTAIN has been shown to improve the performance of clinical providers faced with simulated emergencies.
- It has been implemented by over 800 providers in a variety of intensive care units (ICUs) and acute care settings across five continents.
- This interactive course will provide a simulation-based training experience to teach participants the CERTAIN approach and the best methods to implement this program in their daily patient care activities.
