Course Directors:  J. Taylor Hays, M.D., Michael V. Burke, Ed.D., and Therese M. Shumaker, M.S., M.A.

The 28th Annual Nicotine Dependence Center conference will explore the emerging challenges and opportunities for treating tobacco use disorder in light of the COVID 19 pandemic. This conference will present research and discussion relevant to COVID 19 and Tobacco use disorder (TUD). There are a number of notable associations between the two. TUD may increase the spread of COVID 19 and can impact COVID 19 outcomes. Public health messaging and risk communication has relevance for prevention of both COVID 19 and tobacco use disorder, and recent research has explored the impact for combining COVID 19 and TUD messaging. COVID 19 has also spurred unique opportunities to provide more ways to connect with patients through virtual communication, and social media.
