Professionalism in medicine is most simply defined as putting values into action.  The alignment of employees with a medical center’s primary and core values plays a major role in the strength of the institution’s culture, in overall employee engagement and satisfaction, and on the patient experience. This symposium explores strategies to enhance institutional culture, employee engagement through understanding and support of a medical center’s primary and core values, and professionalism in medicine.

Target Audience

This course is designed for professionals with an interest in enhancing core values to strengthen the institutions culture and professionalism in medicine.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of organizational culture, and how this relates to values, professionalism and employee engagement.  
  • Summarize the concept of the professionalism charter for health care organizations and how this can enhance a medical center's success.
  • Summarize tangible examples of strategies to enhance organizational culture, strength of employee alignment with primary and core values employee engagement, and integration in a community health system or academic medical center.
