The plan for the course are as follows: 

  • Determine the feasibility of a symposium to increase community and patient engagement in research (CPER) in multiple networks, including community members, patient-centered teams, and academic scientists at a meeting.
  • Use the symposium to ascertain strategic areas of focus to increase CPER at a national level 
  • Develop proceedings to describe best practices for disseminating and implementing CPER over multiple dissemination platforms including the conference setting. 

Members of MWRN and partners will attend 2 regional workshops in Phoenix, Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida. During the 2 short regional workshops, the team will determine the focus of the symposium to take place in 2018.

Target Audience

This course is designed for MDs, nurses, health educators, biomedical researchers, and others involved in community and patient engagement in research.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate active engagement in CPER with other minority  scientists, patients and caregivers, and community;
  • Identify opportunities to improve patient-outcomes and community-engaged research to increase wellness in under-resourced areas; and 
  • Develop new and improved collaboration and engagement with diverse research and stakeholder teams to increase capacity and expertise to conduct patient-centered outcomes research and comparative effectiveness research.
