This is the seventh offering of this intensive that gives participants a kind and careful framework for considering the provision of healthcare for patients with chronic conditions. Both minimally disruptive medicine (MDM) and shared decision-making (SDM) are heavily discussed during the course giving participants conceptual and practical knowledge of the topics. The course is divided into brief lectures and interactive workshops. Lectures provide a conceptual overview of MDM and SDM including Mayo Clinic’s most recent research. Interactive workshops provide participants with tools that may be applied to individual practice and healthcare or research teams. Workshops provide space for conversations to discuss further developing MDM and SDM and implementing MDM and SDM tools and concepts into clinical practice. This course focuses on case-based and didactic presentations from Mayo Clinic and other international experts in the treatment of the whole spectrum of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, including esophageal, gastric, hepatocellular, bile duct, pancreatic, small bowel, anal, colorectal, and neuroendocrine. The primary goal of this course is to guide practicing physicians on integrating the best and most current evidence into day-to-day routine care for patients with GI cancers. This course brings a practical perspective on how to optimize multidisciplinary care for some of the more complex clinical management decisions. Topics discussed include locoregional modalities, the role of minimally invasive procedures, and state-of-the-art radiation modalities.

This In-person, one-day, multidisciplinary, interactive course will provide an introduction to simulation-based education. Topics discussed include principles of experiential learning, planning a simulation course, writing and implementing scenarios, and debriefing strategies. Participants also have opportunities to practice scenario writing and debriefing with the guidance of experienced faculty. Enrollment is limited to encourage discussion between attendees.
