5th Annual Forensic Science Symposium Mayo Clinic 2019

This year’s forensic science course at Mayo Clinic covers multidisciplinary approaches to a regional murder case as well as work-related deaths.  Blood spatter analysis, wound interpretation and psychological first aid will be reviewed in addition to forensic pathology and anthropology basics.  The forensic science course program includes case examples and hands-on sessions from some of Mayo Clinics and the surrounding area experts.

Target Audience

This course is designed for M.D. (Medical Examiner, Coroner), Ph.D., PA(ASCP), Death Investigator, County Attorney, Funeral Director, Crime Technicians, Law Enforcement Officers interested in forensic science.

Learning Objectives

The Learning Objectives for the 5th Annual Forensic Science Symposium, Mayo Clinic 2019

-Recognize the signs and symptoms of psychological illness as a responder in the capacity of medicolegal death investigations.
-Apply the tools and techniques of psychological first aid.  
-Identify and recognize the basics of forensic pathology and its application to medicolegal death investigations.
-Define the functions and responsibilities of OSHA in work-related deaths.
-Distinguish between human and non-human remains.
-Perform basic analysis of blood spatter patterns in relation to death scene investigations.
-Apply the lessons learned in presented case examples to current and future medicolegal death investigations.  
-Differentiate between a variety of wound types and their origins.
