Esophageal disease is a rapidly developing medical area marked by significant advances in diagnosis, therapy and identification of new diseases. This CME course will take a comprehensive approach to explore these exciting advancements, including high-resolution manometry and impedance monitoring; new techniques in endoscopic detection and treatment of Barrett’s esophagus; and insights into new diseases such as eosinophilic esophagitis.

Target Audience

This course is designed for practicing gastroenterologists, fellows and residents in gastroenterology. Thoracic surgeons, otolaryngologists and pulmonologists, as well as other healthcare professionals with an interest in esophageal diseases may benefit from this program.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Illustrate how to use the Chicago classification to categorize high resolution manometry studies.
  • Describe clinically relevant esophagogastric junction outflow obstruction.
  • Define the population in whom Barrett’s screening should be considered.
  • Describe the endoscopic approaches for treatment of dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus.
  • Summarize the use of dupilumab and additional options in the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis.
  • Review use functional lumen imaging probe to identify disorders of esophagogastric junction (EGJ) relaxation and achalasia.
  • Identify indications and complications of peroral endoscopic myotomy (POEM).
  • Describe the risks and benefits of endoscopic and medical management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
  • Assess how radiology and pathology can be used to diagnose disorders of the esophagus.
  • Describe how recent advances in chemotherapy, radiation, surgery and endoscopic resection can benefit patients with esophageal cancer.

A block of standard deluxe rooms at a special group rate of $209 (USD), per night for single or double occupancy, $229 for triple and $249 for quadruple occupancy, plus applicable state/local taxes is available. Group rates apply three days prior to and after the course dates, based upon space and rate availability. The resort is located 4.7 miles, or nine minutes, from the ASU Health Futures Center.

To avoid one night’s room/tax charge, reservations must be canceled at least 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival.

The mandatory resort fee is $30.00 per room, per day, plus tax and includes the following services and amenities:
