This course provides a multidisciplinary comprehensive update and management strategies of issues in hematologic and oncologic malignancies presenting new disease classification, treatment, and challenging cases. Topics focus on key hematologic diseases (dysproteinemias, acute and chronic leukemias, lymphomas), key solid tumors (breast, thoracic, GI, GU) and overlap topics of supportive, ancillary and diagnostic care. AMA, nursing and ACPE credits are offered at this course, as well as Nursing CEUs and Pharmacy CE credit.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • List updates in key areas of clinical hematology, medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology
  • Identify an approach to the treatment of multiple myeloma and lymphoma in light of novel agents available
  • Classify novel means of anticoagulation and the indications of newer agents
  • Review the rationale for stem cell transplantation and its indications in hematological diseases
  • Define a clinical approach to the treatment of GI malignancies
  • Identify the targeted approach to lung cancers and their challenges
  • Review the importance of immunotherapy in oncology and its practical use
  • Express the importance of the multidisciplinary team in the care of patients with cancer
  • Identify where application of immunotherapy may benefit patients with breast cancer.
  • Appraise how physical activity can prevent breast cancer and reduce likelihood of breast cancer relapse in your patients.
  • Review how sexual function is impacted upon by breast cancer treatment and how the negative impacts can be overcome.
