Mayo Clinic's An Overview of Perioperative Medicine is intended to update general internists, internist subspecialists, family medicine specialists, anesthesiologists, surgeons and other healthcare professionals on perioperative assessment and management. This course will focus on the practical, clinical side of preoperative assessment and postoperative management. The course will feature a collaborative faculty of multispecialty experts in perioperative medicine from both Mayo Clinic and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.

 

Target Audience

This course is designed for clinicians who see perioperative patients, including internists, hospitalists, family physicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists, NPs, PAs, and nurse anesthetists.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Apply a systematic approach to guide preoperative assessment.
  • Recommend the appropriate continuation and discontinuation of medications and nutraceuticals in the perioperative setting.
  • Assess, optimize and manage a variety of medical comorbidities in the perioperative setting.

Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 28.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
