The 16th Annual Update in Nephrology and Transplantation is a two-day course designed to update participants on a range of nephrology topics relevant to current medical practice.  Through a combination of lectures, literature review and case-based presentations, this course will deliver up-to-date and cutting edge information that can be directly integrated into clinical practice.

The course also offers an ABIM Maintenance of Certification Medical Knowledge session and optional workshops: Bedside Ultrasonography for the Nephrologist: Hands-On Workshop; CRRT: Hands-On Workshop; and Allied Health Program that will be offered on Saturday.

AbstractSubmissions
Abstract submissions are being accepted for the 16th Annual Mayo Clinic Update in Nephrology and Transplantation Course. Abstracts should be based on original research in the field of Nephrology and Kidney and/or Pancreas Transplantation. Case reports will also be considered. Abstracts should consist of introduction, methods, results, and conclusion.  Case Reports should consist of introduction, case report, and discussion. Abstracts should be less than 500 words in total. Accepted abstracts will be presented at dedicated poster sessions.

Abstracts must be submitted by Monday, November 27, 2017, to be considered. Abstract authors will be notified via email by Monday, December 4, 2017.

Target Audience

This course is intended for all members of the nephrology community and will be of interest to nephrologists, internists, primary care physicians, specialists, trainees, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who participate in the care of patients with kidney disorders and kidney and/or pancreas transplants.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Appraise recent publications related to CKD-MBD in CKD and Transplant.
  • Identify the changes induced by calcimimetics vs. vitamin D and its receptor analogues on calcium homeostasis.
  • Summarize recent developments in agents used to treat diabetes and their impact on renal function.
  • Identify the role of pancreas transplantation in the management of diabetes.
  • Enumerate the complications of obesity in the transplant recipient.
  • Summarize the various surgical and non-surgical approaches to weight loss in the CKD and Transplant population.
