Hospital medicine is a growing medical specialty that requires a diverse skill set. Hospital-based healthcare providers must diagnose and manage a wide variety of clinical conditions, coordinate transitions of care, provide perioperative management to surgical patients, and contribute to quality improvement and hospital administration. This course is  specifically designed to ensure that participants augment their skill set to meet these many challenges in an effort to enhance the delivery of healthcare and provide better patient outcomes.

LIVE (in-person) attendees must comply with all live course requirements and guidelines and applicable state and local COVID-19 travel restrictions, guidance and resources.  

Please note that LIVE course attendees must: 

  • Provide proof of vaccination prior to event admission. You must be logged in to ce.mayo.edu to provide proof of vaccination.
  • Complete COVID-19 testing and provide attestation that a negative test result was received within 72 hours or less of the event start date or provide attestation that you received a lab-confirmed positive COVID-19 test result within the previous 90 days, that it has been at least 10 days since the positive test result, and that you are currently asymptomatic. You must be logged in to ce.mayo.edu to complete your attestation. This form will be available to submit on October 31, 2021 at 7:00 a.m., MST.

Learners who do not fulfill the above requirements will be unable to attend the live (in-person) event.

Target Audience

This program is designed for inpatient care providers including physicians, advanced practice providers, residents and fellows. Internal medicine and family practice, among others, are specialties that have practitioners who care for hospitalized patients.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Select appropriate interventions for the management of substance use disorder in the hospital.
  • Recognize clinical presentations of important toxic exposures.
  • Develop an approach to the management of hypoxic patients in the hospital.
  • Choose an evidence-based antibiotic treatment duration for common inpatient infections.

A block of rooms at a special group rate of $219 (USD), plus applicable local and state taxes, per night, is available for course participants and guests. A discounted resort fee of $15, per room per night plus tax, includes internet in guest room, self-parking, daily fitness activities in Hashani Spa, kid’s meal for dinner at Signature Grill (12 and under), 15% off at Resort’s Marketplace/Gift shop, Hashini Spa shop, golf shops and unlimited golf driving range.  Room attendant and porterage are optional and at guest’s discretion.  Group rates apply three days prior to and three days after course dates, based upon availability.

Participants will receive 10% off Hashini Spa menu options (excludes salon services) and 10% off published 2021 Starr Pass golf prices.  Additional resort amenities available to guests include complimentary scheduled guided hikes into Tucson Mountain Park, nightly tequila toast in Salud Lobby Lounge at 5:30 p.m., 24-hour fitness center, and flavored water at resort’s front desk.

All reservations must be accompanied by a first night room deposit or guaranteed with a major credit card. 

To ensure accommodations, make your reservation before the room block fills or October 9, 2021, via website or telephone, and reference “Mayo Clinic Hospital Medicine.”   After the cut-off date, the hotel will accept reservations based on a space- and rate-available basis.  To avoid one night’s room/tax charge, reservations must be canceled at least three (3) days prior to scheduled arrival.

Attendees are responsible for their own reservations.

Mayo Clinic is closely monitoring COVID-19 prevalence and may adjust live course attendance limits as necessitated by CDC, public health and other relevant guidelines. Attendees are asked to comply with all live course and conference guidelines.
