This course is designed to prepare new and experienced preceptors with the skills needed to serve in the clinical faculty role. The course contains nine modules of topics identified by Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences faculty that preceptors desire when working with students. Each module includes a pre and posttest, short article to read through, and a video to help you utilize the concepts when working with Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students. You may work through the modules at your own pace, completing them at your convenience and refer back to them as you need to in the future.  

Target Audience

This course is designed for NP, PA, MDs from all practice areas

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Apply the learned information in NP and PA student interactions while precepting
  • Utilize structured communication techniques to deliver NP and PA student feedback on performance
  • Explain the process needed for preceptor documentation of NP and PA students in the electronic medical record
  • Describe methods to improve time management and efficiency when precepting students in a busy clinical practice
  • Review the legal and ethical considerations of precepting students
  • Demonstrate an increase in self-efficacy when applying key techniques needed to prepare NP and PA students
