A wide spectrum of topics in CHF/pulmonary hypertension, coronary artery diseases, cardiac arrhythmias, anticoagulation, preventive cardiology, sports cardiology and valvular heart disease among others will be offered. In keeping pace with current demands, two modules  (ABIM, ACCF) on CV diseases and one ABFM Self-Assessment Module will be offered for purposes of maintenance of certification.

Target Audience

This course is intended for practicing adult cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, cardiovascular trainees, general internists, family medicine specialists, PAs, nurse practitioners, and nurses with a cardiovascular interest. 

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Review the indications, use and limitations of different types of anticoagulants in a diverse spectrum of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Explain the current indications and contra-indications for TAVR and mitral valve clip.
  • Identify patients with severe aortic valve stenosis who are candidates for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
  • Apply the latest cardiovascular (CV) guidelines to improve overall morbidity/mortality rates.
  • Describe practice changes to improve care for patients with obesity and heart disease.
  • Summarize guidelines to increase preventive care for patients with CV diseases.
  • Review issues related to cardiovascular adaptations to exercise.
  • Identify cardiovascular conditions of risk for the practice of competitive sports.
  • Apply current guidelines for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • Identify guidelines for treatment and investigation of acute and chronic thromboembolic disease.

We have reserved a limited block of guest rooms at the Sedona Rouge as an overflow option for attendees with a special rate of $158 (plus tax) single or double occupancy per night. Group rates will be honored 3 days prior and 3 days following the course dates, based on space availability. Children under age 17 stay in the same room with parents at no additonal charge as long as the maximum occupancy in the room does not exceed four.  The resort fee of $22 per room will be waived and attendees are offered 10% off any spa treatments.  Please identify yourself as a part of the Mayo Clinic Group when making reservations to receive the special group rates.

The Enchantment Resort is located approximately two hours north of Phoenix. Temperatures average 20 degrees cooler than the Phoenix area during summer. 

A limited block of guest rooms have been reserved for attendees with a special course rate of $250 (plus tax) single or double occupancy per night. Group rates will be honored 3 days prior and 3 days following the course dates, based on space availability. Children under the age of 18 years stay complimentary. The resort fee is $25 per room per night which includes high speed internet access in the guest rooms, access to the spa, nightly turn down service with bottled water, and local / 800 phone call access fees.
