The Humanities in Medicine Symposium is a forum for providers and the community to examine the meaning of truly patient-centered care and discover best practices for delivering an exceptional patient experience.  An intersection of arts and humanities disciplines – inclusive of music, visual art, theatre, dance, creative writing, storytelling, narrative practice, ethical considerations, and other topical discussions, the symposium is designed to engage healthcare providers, artists, and members of the community who have an interest in this ever-expanding field.

Abstracts
We invite you to submit a presentation abstract showcasing inventive and thriving arts in healthcare programs as well as other interdisciplinary pursuits in the health humanities.

Abstract submission extended deadline: Friday, July 1, 2016. Paid conference registration is required for accepted abstracts.

Featured Artist - Exit 12 Dance Company
EXIT12 is committed to creating and performing works of high cultural significance that inspire conversations about worldly differences. Through movement, the company educates audiences, advocates diversity and mutual understanding through cultural exchange, and champions the humanity and dignity of all persons.

Roman Baca is an Iraq War Veteran and the co-founder and Artistic Director of Exit12 Dance Company in New York City. After a career in dance, Mr. Baca served as a US Marine and was deployed to Fallujah, Iraq from ‘05-’06.  Mr. Baca has choreographed major works relating to the military and their families, and conducts Veteran/Civilian movement workshops to provide tools to aid veterans in the workplace and bridge the civilian-veteran divide.

Target Audience

This course is intended for arts in health practitioners, expressive arts therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, healthcare providers, artists, arts directors, administrators, educators and students.
