As survivors of critical illness continue to increase, it is vital that we ensure our patients are receiving the best care from the multidisciplinary team. This conference will focus on critically ill patients across the life span offering adult and pediatric tracks. A variety of clinical experts will provide the learner with focused educational opportunities to address the unique and diverse medical and psychosocial needs of the critically ill patient. The course will provide knowledge and insight into rehabilitation feasibility and safety, psychosocial elements of the intensive care unit patient, and knowledge and skills to foster rehabilitation in intensive care unit within small and large medical institutions. AOTA members receive a 10% registraton discount.

This course is designed for Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Nurses, Physicians, Medical Professionals and administrative stakeholders in acute, critical care.
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
- Recognize the rationale for providing rehabilitation services to adult and pediatric populations in the intensive care unitIdentify assessments, outcome measures and treatment considerations when providing care to the adult and pediatric populations in the intensive care unit
- Recall psychosocial elements that impact care for patients and families received during and following their stay in intensive car
- Describe an approach to feeding/swallowing with considerations for adult and pediatric populations
- Explain assessment and management of sedation and delirium for adult and pediatric patients while promoting early activity and mobility
- Describe respiratory devices, monitoring and considerations (including mechanical ventilation) during rehabilitation activities in both the adult and pediatric populations
