PLEASE NOTE DATES OF COURSE: JANUARY 22-24, 2015 Mayo Clinic faculty, board certified in Psychosomatic Medicine or medical disciplines, will review principles of psychiatric diagnosis and treatment of patients managed in medical and surgical inpatient and outpatient settings. The target audiences consist of family medicine physicians, general internists, psychiatrists, and selected medical and surgical specialists and subspecialists who manage conditions with significant behavioral or psychiatric contributions.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Assess new concepts about the detection and treatment of somatic symptom problems along with depression and anxiety in patients seen in medical settings
  • Describe evidence-based evaluation and management strategies for patients with cardiac disease and co-morbid clinical psychiatric illness
  • Identify unique psychological and psycho-pharmacologic aspects of managing clinical psychiatric disorders in patients with cancer
  • Identify evidence-based existing and research-phase treatment options in psychiatry through the use of neuromodulation therapy
