This 1-1/2 day intensive course will familiarize the clinician with all the aspects of tuberculosis infection, disease and clinical care using an interdisciplinary and interactive approach. The curriculum is provided through lecture and interactive case management sessions. The faculty is selected for their unique skills in encouraging interaction and building rapport with participants. The atmosphere is relaxed with an expectation that a free exchange of questions, comments and information will occur.

Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals, who are involved in the management of patients with tuberculosis (TB), supervise those who provide care for TB patients, or are TB control staff responsible for program management. 

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Apply current advances for assessing risk, testing and treating latent TB infection to prevent development of disease 
  • Apply recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of TB disease to prevent transmission and primary drug resistance
  • Identify appropriate TB infection control measures along the continuum of care to prevent transmission and future cases of TB
  • Describe approaches for managing adverse drug effects to anti-TB medications to minimize toxicity and ensure completion of therapy
  • Describe how primary care providers and community agencies can collaborate to prevent missed opportunities in the diagnosis and treatment of TB
  • Describe clinical presentation of TB disease in certain populations (e.g., Class B1 and B2 immigrant populations)
