There is substantial evidence on the role that diet and nutrition, physical activity and exercise, and resiliency plays in preventing and treating chronic diseases and improving quality of life. Traditional CME courses use a classroom-based format to educate healthcare providers in these areas. However, it is challenging for people to make beneficial lifestyle behavior changes, and education by itself doesn’t necessarily promote behavior change. This course is experiential as well as educational. It is based on The Mayo Clinic Healthy Living Program, a program designed to help people make beneficial lifestyle behavior changes. In this course, attendees learn about lifestyle medicine, and actively participate in classes designed to help create an individualized wellness plan. Learning in this personal manner helps participants counsel patients on making these same healthy behavior changes.

The Community Outreach and Engagement (SoCOE) Conference provides a platform for Cancer COE academic-community stakeholders to share best practices and recommendations that will address inequities in cancer prevention, early detection, care and survivorship. The theme for the 2024 conference is “Innovative approaches to decentralization of clinical trials: Meeting participants where they are”. The conference will: - Provide opportunities for mutual learning, knowledge transfer, and collaborations relative to clinical trials in diverse populations among COE stakeholders; - Advance the engagement, recruitment, and retention of diverse populations in Oncology Clinical Trials (OCTs) through decentralization of clinical trials; - Identify cost-effective technologies to accelerate the decentralization of OCTs in minoritized and marginalized populations; - Facilitate networking among COE stakeholders involved in all aspects of OCTs; - Facilitate the development of a global community of practice to address common challenges in the engagement, recruitment, and retention of underrepresented populations for OCTs; and - Develop a comprehensive strategic plan for decentralized of OCTs in populations underrepresented in clinical trials.

Sleep, pain and trauma history are three concerns that can significantly impact an individual’s ability to advance health and wellness goals. This continuing education course is designed for health and wellness coaches who want to enhance their knowledge of the current science and treatments of sleep disorders, chronic pain and trauma history. Mayo Clinic experts will share the latest research and evidence-based practices in the fields of sleep, trauma, and pain management that can be used in support of client’s self-directed behavioral goals. The course will cover topics such as the impact of sleep deprivation on physical and emotional health, the neurobiology of trauma and its effects on the body and mind, and evidence-based chronic pain management techniques. By the end of this course, participants will have a deeper understanding of the impact of sleep, trauma, and pain on overall health and well-being. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the current science, treatment and behavioral aspects of these important health concerns.

March 7 - 8, 2024 - Arizona State University (ASU) Health Futures Center - Phoenix, Arizona

This two day highly interactive course will focus on the key concepts and skills related to health system science which is the study of systems, processes, and leadership to optimize health care delivery and person-centered care. Innovative application of these concepts will be explored in small inter-professional groups with the aim to identify practical and individualized ways to integrate them into clinical practice and education. The course will include plenary presentations combined with extensive small group workshops focused on the 6 domains of knowledge in health system science.
