This workshop is designed to teach the technique of radioguided breast surgery utilizing an I-125 radioactive seed in place of a localization wire for the surgical management of breast disease, including cancer. The workshop will consist of didactic lectures, as well as an optional hands-on skills session. 

Topics include: Radiation Safety Issues and Protocols, Coding and Billing, How to Begin a Seed Program at Your Institution, and Lessons Learned: How-to Stay Out of Trouble.

Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe advantages of a radioactive seed localized procedure.
  • Outline the steps needed to implement a radioactive seed localized breast program at participants’ institutions.
  • Apply techniques of radioactive seed placement and radioactive seed localized breast surgery.

The registration fee includes tuition, printed course syllabus, Lunch with Faculty, and afternoon break refreshments. Although it is not Mayo School of Continuous Professional Development (CPD) policy to limit the number of registrants for a course, conference room facilities may necessitate closing of enrollment; therefore, early registration is advised. Self-assessment credits towards Part 2 of the ABS MOC Program
This course will be offering optional CME and self-assessment credits towards Part 2 of the ABS MOC Program.  Registrants are able to earn credits for the self-assessment, in addition to the live event.  The self-assessment will be available online after the course.  An 80% overall score must be achieved to receive credit and the self-assessment can be taken a total of two times.  The additional self-assessment credits include time to review the course material, take the self-assessment, review your individual report, identify gaps, and look up information from any of the references or other resources.
