Enhanced Recovery After Surgery: Avoiding Complications, Avoiding Opiates 2018

Phoenix, AZ US
February 2, 2018 to February 3, 2018

Course Director: Tonia M. Young-Fadok, MD, MS

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) is a multidisciplinary, multi-modal approach to perioperative care. The best of evidence-based medicine is employed to optimize the patient’s post-operative course promoting early recovery while post-op complications and costs are reduced. We also focus on multi-modality pain management  which allows for reduction in post-operative opioid use. This proactive approach is comprised of data-driven, proven interventions: “Post-op recovery starts in pre-op.”

  • Starting with clearly-defined preoperative preparation that involves the spectrum of health care team members, including the patient.
  • Intraoperative approaches that have the entire scope of the patient’s care in mind including postoperative recovery – multimodality pain control, pre-emption of nausea, and fluid management to minimize postop ileus.
  • Postoperative order sets and team care that optimize patient recovery, convey the experience of accumulated knowledge and minimize complications and hospital stay.

This course provides evidence-based best practices from foremost international leaders. Discussion panels and breakout sessions allow attendees to “pick the brains” of teams who have successfully improved their patients’ outcomes and then return to their institutions with a plan. Consider inviting members of the courses multi-disciplinary team to facilitate implementation at your institution.
