Social Work 2024 Symposium - Somatic Play Therapy Through the Lifespan | This conference will provide a theoretical framework and strategies for use of somatic play therapy, along with other evidence-based practices to address medical trauma. Play therapy with adults looks radically different than with children but is a useful intervention for both patient populations. Somatic and play-based modalities allow for processing and healing of body memories that may have a linguistic story. Use of sounds, smells, and vestibular triggers will be reviewed. In particular, there are significant knowledge gaps regarding opioid management and nonpharmacologic management. This webinar series addresses these gaps with topics that focus on improving the safety and quality of treatment of patients with chronic pain in our community. Communication with patients with chronic pain can often be challenging given a different number of factors.
