Primary care represents the “front entryway” into the healthcare system. Primary care, family medicine, and pediatric teams are tasked with not only caring for the medical needs of their patients but with caring for the mental health needs of their patients as well. Embedding evidence-based mental health interventions within the primary care environment represents a unique opportunity to promote overall health in a less stigmatized environment, with opportunities for earlier intervention and improved outcomes. Considerable variability exists across primary care clinics in terms of populations served, patterns of medical and psychiatric conditions and comorbidities, internal and community-based mental health resources, and barriers to care. Even with minimal resources, strategic investments can be made in designing, implementing, and evaluating integrated programs within primary care. A growing evidence base also exists for brief, single-session mental health interventions that can be delivered right at the point of care. IBH teams of social workers, psychologists, nurses, and psychiatric prescribers all bring a unique skill set that can deliver highly targeted, single-session interventions to help serve the entire primary care population in a resource-efficient manner.

This in-person, multidisciplinary, interactive workshop is an introduction to procedural simulation in healthcare. Built on sound theoretical foundations of psychomotor skills development, standards of practice and research, this workshop will prepare participants to plan, design, implement, assess and provide effective feedback for procedural skills using simulation. Enrollment is limited to smaller group to encourage maximum engagement of all participants.

November 1, 2024 - Mayo Clinic - Phoenix, Arizona

This is a one-day, simulation-based course that fulfills the simulation requirements for Part IV of MOCA. It consists of a series of simulation scenarios followed by debriefing periods with a variety of anesthetic challenges. You will be sharing the day with other anesthesiologists. Cases are ones that any board-certified anesthesiologist ought to be striving to manage and consist of team management skills, as well as skills managing hemodynamic and respiratory instability. Participants are informed there is no graded test. This is an opportunity to participate in experiential learning: observe a case and then have an opportunity to analyze the case and its management. Each participant has the opportunity to be the prime manager of at least one scenario and to be a backup team in other scenarios.

Hospital Medicine Simulation-Based Boot Camp 2.0 for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants 2024 is a one-day course designed for Mayo Clinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants that have completed Boot Camp 1.0 and are interested in expanding their medical knowledge. This course further explores acute medical conditions that are complex and common among hospitalized patients. Content is delivered by the use of simulation based learning and didactic formats through interactive discussions. It is meant to be fun and full of practical information to help NPPAs be successful in their practice caring for acutely ill hospitalized patients.
