This is a one-day, simulation-based course that fulfills the simulation requirements for Part IV of MOCA. It consists of a series of simulation scenarios followed by debriefing periods with a variety of anesthetic challenges. You will be sharing the day with other anesthesiologists. Cases are ones that any board-certified anesthesiologist ought to be striving to manage and consist of team management skills, as well as skills managing hemodynamic and respiratory instability. Participants are informed there is no graded test. This is an opportunity to participate in experiential learning: observe a case and then have an opportunity to analyze the case and its management. Built on sound theoretical foundations of psychomotor skills development, standards of practice and research, this workshop will prepare participants to plan, design, implement, assess and provide effective feedback for procedural skills using simulation. Enrollment is limited to smaller group to encourage maximum engagement of all participants.

May 15 - 18, 2024 - The Omni Grove Park Inn - Asheville, North Carolina

The course will begin with a discussion of echocardiographic assessment of left and right ventricular function, including presentations on diastolic function and strain imaging for assessing myocardial function. We will then discuss a broad range of disease states for which echocardiography is useful, including ischemic heart disease, valvular heart disease, pericardial disease, and cardiomyopathies. The presentations will include basic concepts as well as advanced techniques including 3-D imaging and strain imaging. Throughout the course many cases will be presented.
