Management of chronic pain is complex, with primary care physicians and other non-pain management specialists often facing challenges in addressing complex pain. In particular, there are significant knowledge gaps regarding opioid management and nonpharmacologic management. This webinar series addresses these gaps with topics that focus on improving the safety and quality of treatment of patients with chronic pain in our community.

Chronic neck and back pain are some of the greatest contributors to disability and functional impairment in the United States as well as globally. This month we will discuss management approaches to addressing chronic spine pain specifically through the lens of functional impairment, with a focus on improving the overall quality of life for this patient population.

The 5th Annual Mayo Clinic Thyroid and Parathyroid Disorders Course 2024 is a three-day CME course offering a comprehensive review of diagnostic techniques and medical and surgical management of thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Multiple educational formats are used, including case presentations, interactive Q&A sessions, as well as live demonstrations of physical examination, anatomy, ultrasound and arthroscopy. This course is designed to provide the clinician and cardiac sonographer with an update on the basic concepts as well as advanced techniques when assessing cardiac disease with echocardiography and other imaging modalities. Experts in echocardiography will use illustrative cases and lectures to highlight the role of echocardiography in cardiology such as valvular heart disease, heart failure, myocardial disease, cardiac function, and congenital heart disease. This course will familiarize attendees with recent technological advances in the field. New topics such as 3D imaging, strain imaging and hand-held echo imaging are unique aspects to be discussed during the course along with appropriate use in the operating room, hemodynamic evaluation including cardiac emergencies, cardiac catheterization laboratory, critical care units and in operating rooms will be discussed.

The program seeks to address competence in using multiple echocardiographic techniques in assessment of cardiac structure and function in adult acquired or congenital heart disease. This will include concise, limited didactic lectures with major emphasis on a series of illustrative cases which will include audience response and discussion presented by echocardiography specialists which would lead to enhanced patient management. Workshops will be held to demonstrate the techniques for acquiring the echocardiographic data, especially with respect to new contemporary techniques such as strain imaging.

Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) is increasingly being used for refractory cardiopulmonary failure and its use in the adult population is gaining attention in clinical practice. The paucity of randomized clinical trials and guidelines has led to significant practice variation when trying to address the challenge of minimizing risk and maximizing benefit. This course provides the necessary framework for management of a patient requiring ECLS through the use of practical case-based scenarios, high-fidelity hands-on simulations, and discussion of current hot topics.
