H. pylori

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Explain the clinical significance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), including its role in the development of gastric cancer, and mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma.
  • Outline the current recommendations for testing H. pylori, including identifying patient populations who would benefit from testing.
  • Evaluate the current recommended treatment regimens considering resistance patterns, including the shift from clarithromycin-based triple therapy to bismuth quadruple therapy.
  • Articulate the importance of testing for the eradication of H. pylori following treatment, including understanding the recommended timing and methods for post-treatment testing.
  • Identify the treatment regimens for H. pylori salvage therapy, including the selection of appropriate second-line or third-line treatments, and the consideration of antibiotic resistance patterns to ensure successful eradication of the infection.
