Many chronic conditions related to brain health can be prevented as we age by living a healthy lifestyle that reduces risk factors. In this two-part series, you will learn the risk factors associated with declining brain health and what lifestyle modifications can be made so you and your clients can enjoy healthy longevity.

Heal Your Gut, Save Your Brain (39 minutes)

The rise in diseases like Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s could have a surprising source: the gut. Scientists are still exploring the link between the gut and the brain, but there is evidence that a balanced holistic lifestyle could reduce stress, inflammation, and, potentially, the risk of neurodegenerative conditions. Tara Schmidt, M.Ed, RDN, talks with gastroenterologist Dr. Partha Nandi.

Is Dementia Preventable? (36 minutes)

Cognitive functioning is a key part of overall health and independence — which is why dementia can be especially challenging for individuals, family, and loved ones. But is dementia preventable? What can we do now to preserve brain health? And how do we distinguish between cognitive changes related to typical aging and symptoms of dementia? Dr. Christina Chen talks with internist and geriatrician, Dr. Ericka Tung about these common questions, caring for adults with dementia, and positive outlooks for dementia prevention.
