Learning Objectives - Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Construct a pressure-volume loop during a typical cardiac cycle.
2. Discuss the Frank Starling Law of the heart as it relates to preload, afterload, and myocardial contractility.
3. Interpret the effects of valvular heart disease and cardiomyopathies on pressure-volume loops and the Frank Starling curve.
4. Differentiate the effects of commonly used cardiac medications on pressure-volume loops and the Frank Starling curve.
