Dr. Julia Benjamin is a second-year postdoctoral fellow in medical psychology at Mayo Clinic, specializing in pediatric psychology. She earned her BA in psychology and world religions from Northwestern University and then served in the Peace Corps in Romania working as an environmental education volunteer. She received a master’s degree in developmental psychology from Columbia University’s Teachers College, where she acted as the assistant director of a classroom-based oral histories program for recent immigrant students. Dr. Benjamin completed her pre-doctoral psychology internship at Boston Children’s Hospital in pediatric psychology and received her doctorate in counseling psychology from at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017.  Dr. Benjamin’s primary research and clinical interests include treatment of chronic pain and functional symptoms, as well as fostering resilience for youth who identify as diverse with regard to sexual orientation and gender identity. She is currently completing projects examining the potential impact of intensive interdisciplinary pediatric pain rehabilitation programs on caregiver outcomes, and eating and weight concerns in adolescents with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.

Sohail Mohammad graduated from Deccan College of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, India. He has a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Kentucky. He completed his residency training in psychiatry from the Delaware Psychiatric Center and is a fellow in consultation-liaison psychiatry.

  2. Name two psychological factors associated with the pain cycle.
  3. Describe youth and parent acceptability of mindfulness-based interventions incorporated in Mayo Clinic's Child and Adolescent Mood Program.
