Course Description:
This one-day course is designed as a continuing education course for optometry, with a balanced assessment of clinically relevant advances in eye care. A few topics include retinal cases with imaging by Dr. Andrew Barkmeier, an introduction to a new retinal prosthesis, a review of lid lesions, advice on smoking cessation, and pediatric glaucoma.

Course Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Describe correct application of OCT when interpreting these complex scans.
  • Explain the criteria to determine whether the new prosthesis retinal system for blind patients is appropriate.
  • Distinguish between eyelid lesions that are benign and those that need to be referred for immediate removal/treatment.
  • Describe cranial nerve palsies that may not frequently present in general clinic.  
  • Describe the rare condition of pediatric glaucoma.
  • Assess the most current and successful glaucoma surgeries.
