Speaker: Jonathan Winegarden, MD

Title: Seeing the Unseen: The Underworld of Child Psychiatry in Southeast Minnesota.

Introduction: Dr. Winegarden is a PGY-5 child and adolescent psychiatry fellow. Originally from Michigan, he spent 2 years working for an NGO in Mumbai, India working against human trafficking which naturally lead into an interest in psychiatry and especially children. He has interests in spirituality and religion as well as acute psychiatric care.

2. Demonstrate how to take the next steps in treatment.

 

Speaker: Katie Andrews, MD, PhD

Title: Forging psychiatric educators: A case example and opportunities for psychiatry trainees at Mayo Clinic

Introduction:  Katie Andrews, MD, PhD is a second year child and adolescent psychiatry fellow at Mayo Clinic. She completed undergraduate degrees in biochemistry and genetics with a minor in creative writing at Texas A&M University in 2013. She attended medical and graduate school at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, completing her PhD in Medical Neuroscience in 2019 and her MD in 2021. She has been at Mayo Clinic since 2021, first for general psychiatry residency and now as a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow. She will graduate this summer having completed the Mayo GME Clinician Educator Pathway and training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). She has also been involved in the Department of Psychiatry Clinician Educator Track for several years, developing a novel curriculum for residents on neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Andrews’s academic interests include improving care delivery and trainee education on neurodevelopmental disorders. 

Learning Objectives: 
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Recognize ACGME identified objectives for psychiatry trainees as educators
  2. Describe an example of the creation of a psychiatric educator identity
  3. Identify mentored opportunities for psychiatry trainees to explore education interests at Mayo Clinic
