DESCRIPTION:
The Mayo Clinic Audiology externs each present on work they have done this year. Five presentations focus on audiology hearing/vestibular diagnostic testing and interpretation and one presentation focuses on hearing aid characteristics.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Describe how anxiety and depression may influence vestibular ocular reflex (VOR) measures during rotary chair testing and the implications for clinical interpretation.
Identify how self-reported GAD-7 and PHQ-9 scores can be integrated with rotary chair results to improve diagnostic accuracy and counseling for patients with vestibular disorders.
Differentiate between vestibular dysfunction patterns in Meniere's disease versus chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy in a patient with progressive vetibulopathy
Interpret serial vesitbular testing results to identify disease progression
Describe the importance of screening for chronic respiratory alkolosis in the vestibular patient population.
Identify appropriate referral pathways for patients at risk for chronic respiratory alkalosis
Demonstrate effective counseling by presenting the benefits and limitations of available amplification options and supporting patients in making informed decisions.
Explain the significance of pre-operative vestibular testing to reduce post-operative cochlear implantation complications.
