Intramuscular Injections - Online CNE Course

This online CNE course is designed to provide an overview of intramuscular (IM) injections. Content reviews the deltoid, vastus lateralis, and ventrogluteal injection sites including anatomical landmarks for locating each with return demonstration scenarios on different patients. Correct steps for administration of immunizations and other IM injections along with precaution considerations are also included.

 

Target Audience

This online CNE course is designed for nurses and other allied health professionals who administer intramuscular injections. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • List the anatomical landmarks used to locate the safest place for intramuscular (IM) injections on indicated patients.
  • Demonstrate proper IM injection location on ten virtual patients.
  • Identify two precautions to consider when administering IM injections.
  • Summarize the correct steps of an IM injection.
