Mayo Clinic’s Hospital Medicine Boot Camp for NPPAs is a two-day course designed for the novice learner, ideally within the first year of their hospital-based NPPA position. This course is meant to be fun and full of practical information taught by faculty that use current guidelines and share tidbits of experience to help successfully care for acutely ill hospitalized patients. It is filled with a variety of commonly encountered hospital scenarios followed by interactive and informal discussion. Open dialog is encouraged. Participants should feel free to wear scrubs and comfortable shoes, bring a stethoscope, and reference/clinical materials used in daily practice. Despite being called boot camp there are no physical fitness elements to the course.

This is the seventh offering of this intensive that gives participants a kind and careful framework for considering the provision of healthcare for patients with chronic conditions. Both minimally disruptive medicine (MDM) and shared decision-making (SDM) are heavily discussed during the course giving participants conceptual and practical knowledge of the topics. The course is divided into brief lectures and interactive workshops. Lectures provide a conceptual overview of MDM and SDM including Mayo Clinic’s most recent research. Interactive workshops provide participants with tools that may be applied to individual practice and healthcare or research teams. Workshops provide space for conversations to discuss further developing MDM and SDM and implementing MDM and SDM tools and concepts into clinical practice. January 24 - 25, 2025 - Mayo Clinic Franke Education Center - Phoenix, Arizona

This live and livestream course provides the latest, state-of-the-art information on the diagnosis and management of common issues and disorders such as antiplatelet/anticoagulation management for endoscopy, genetic testing for patients and family, endobariatrics beyond the weight loss, diversity in GI and medicine, advancement in endoscopic closure, cold snare polypectomy, managing Crohn’s disease, non-alcoholic steatotic liver disease, and indications for liver transplantation in setting of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Friday offers a full-day, interactive, live-endoscopy session where participants have the unique opportunity to ask the endoscopists questions (via livestream) while the procedures are taking place. Saturday offers didactic lectures, both live and livestream, with panel discussions for interactive Q & A opportunities with course faculty members.
