This In-person, multidisciplinary, interactive course will prepare instructors for healthcare simulation education. During this three-day course, participants will learn the basic principles and elements of simulation-based education, design and implement simulation scenarios as well as procedural simulations and practice reflective debriefing skills. This course offers an experiential learning environment with a combination of didactic, practice and reflective feedback with the guidance of experienced Mayo Clinic Simulation Faculty.


Enrollment is limited to smaller group to encourage maximum engagement of all attendees.

Target Audience

Nurses, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Respiratory Therapists, Paramedics and any other discipline interested in using simulation of education, assessment, research or systems improvement. 

Learning Objectives

Learners will:

  • Describe fundamental concepts, elements, and best practices of healthcare simulation-based education (SBE)
  • Discuss the concept of debriefing and the role reflective learning in simulation-based learning.
  • Apply SBE concepts and skills learned to develop, facilitate, and debrief learner focused healthcare simulations that promote optimal learning and skill development.
  • Discuss challenges and solutions related to healthcare simulations.
