Mayo Clinic Talks: Multiple Sclerosis: A Primary Care Perspective

Available until February 1, 2026

Nearly 1 million individuals in the U.S. have multiple sclerosis. Most acquire the disease between the ages of 20 and 50. It’s often difficult to establish a diagnosis as the symptoms can be vague and often vary significantly from one individual to another. The disease can be very frightening, often debilitating, and progressive; up until recently, we’ve had very little to offer patients in the way of treatment. However, in the past few years there have been numerous advances in treatment options which have given hope to the many patients with MS. We’ll be discussing multiple sclerosis in this podcast. Our guest is Eoin Flanagan, M.B., B.Ch., a neurologist from the Department of Neurology at the Mayo Clinic.

Mayo Clinic Talks: Functional Dyspepsia: BOOM! BANG! Burning & Pain!

Available until February 1, 2026

Functional dyspepsia, also known as non-ulcer dyspepsia, represents chronic upper GI symptoms of indigestion and not infrequently abdominal discomfort. Diagnosing functional dyspepsia can be challenging since there are no definitive diagnostic tests. This often results in patients seeking multiple medical opinions searching for a specific cause and treatment for their symptoms. What are the common presenting symptoms of functional dyspepsia? What’s an appropriate evaluation and how do we treat our patients who have it? In this podcast, we’ll discuss these questions and more with David J. Project ECHO for Liver Health

October 11 - December 12, 2023

This course is only available to Mayo Clinic Personnel

This course will only be offered via livestream.

Mayo Clinic Project ECHO™ (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) seeks to be a force multiplier to share academic clinical knowledge with health care providers who practice in rural and underserved areas and want to increase their knowledge of how to identify and treat liver disease. During regularly scheduled ECHO sessions, via Zoom, participants will learn to assess and risk-stratify patients to identify liver disease. Interactive didactics will be presented in the context of “All Teach. All Learn.” CME credit will be awarded to participants, at no cost. Through the ECHO model, local providers are trained by academic specialists. As a result of this training higher quality healthcare will be delivered locally, disease progression is arrested, steps are made toward health equity in marginalized demographics, and population health outcomes are improved. The aim of Mayo Clinic Project ECHO is to effectively improve the capacity of clinicians treating liver disease throughout Mayo Clinic Health System to improve patient outcomes. The project is a collaborative model of medical education and care management that helps providers deliver care to patients with chronic liver disease. The project strives to narrow gaps in healthcare disparities for unrepresented minority populations and reduce the burden on the patients by allowing improved access to specialty care. Why is ECHO Important? Prevalence of Liver Disease Liver disease is a significant health concern that is often silent. It is estimated that 35% of the US population suffers from silent liver disease. Liver disease encompasses a range of conditions that affect the liver’s function and structure, including steatotic liver disease (previously known as fatty liver), alcoholic liver disease, viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and more. If liver disease is diagnosed and addressed early, the consequences can be mitigated, and patient outcomes are much improved.
