Learning Objectives:

  • State the implications of supervision along the continuum of medical education, including the historical perspective, policy changes and the various types of supervision identified by accrediting bodies
  • Describe the existing literature on clinical supervision in graduate medical education, with a focus on policy implications and areas for improvement
  • Appreciate the role of trust in supervision, and how individual factors and other metadata impact decisions on the degree of supervision provided
  • Reflect on identified best practices in clinical supervision, as well as consider novel methods for supervising trainees and their implications along the continuum of medical evaluation
