Learning Objectives:
- Demonstrate how to interpret hscTnT values in patients with COVID-19
- Interpret the mechanisms for increases in hscTnT
- Identify the potential of missing MIs because of the effects of the COVID pandemic
- Recognize that gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms can be a manifestation of COVID, and occasionally even in the absence of typical symptoms
- Demonstrate best supportive care is appropriate for management of GI symptoms
- Demonstrate how mild and transient elevations of aminotransferases are observed in COVID-19 infection, more frequently in severe COVID-19, and do not require any specific treatment
- Demonstrate that the COVID-19 liver injury is usually modest; for significant elevations of aminotrasferases >5-10x upper limit of normal, consider other causes such as drug-induced liver injury or ischemic hepatitis
- Describe respiratory failure and ARDS associated with COVID-19, including basic physiology and interventions
- Emphasize best practice for viral pneumonias: "Supportive care: Know the basics and do them well"
- Identify several COVID-related challenges, their practical solutions, and lessons learned based upon our ICU experience with COVID patients to date
