Objectives:

At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Differentiate social/recreational use of substances from Substance Use Disorders (SUDs).
  • Identify health compromising effects of substances of abuse in palliative care patients.
  • Describe psychosocial and pharmacologic treatments strategies for management of Substance Use Disorders in palliative care patients.
  • Recognize the dynamics and roles in a family with addiction.
  • Identify how these dynamics may impact palliative care.
  • Integrate Addiction counseling in Palliative Care (know when to refer).
