At Mayo Clinic, Palliative care is specialized medical care that focuses on providing patients relief from pain and other symptoms of a serious illness, no matter the diagnosis or stage of disease. Palliative care teams aim to improve the quality of life for both patients and their families. This form of care is offered alongside curative or other treatments patients are already receiving. 

An interdisciplinary team of palliative medicine specialists approaches each person's situation with creativity and empathy. These specialists meet with patients and families to understand treatment options and goals and develop a plan that addresses concerns.  The team members spend as much time as needed with patients to provide support every step of the way to help control symptoms, relieve stress, and improve quality of life. Mayo Clinic offers palliative care to people who are hospitalized, as well as, those who have returned home after treatment or moved to a care facility and partners with provider wherever the care is occurring.  Palliative Medicine offer hospital services and is growing the outpatient practices at each of our sites including Florida, Arizona and a crossed the Midwest.
