This 3 hour workshop provides an intesive overview of the utilization of burpernorphine in pallaitive care to treat opioid substance use disorders as well as to treat pain. We will provide an overview of pharmacology of burprenorphine and case based examples of treating OUD in palliative patients as well as various scenarios using buprenorphine to treat pain in palliative care patients. We will review ways of rotating patients from high dose opioids to buprenorphine as well as the use of IV buprenorphine in hospitalized patients. We provide tips and tricks to optimize the buprenorphine options for patients you follow.
Target Audience
Targeted clinician specialties (MD, NP, PA-C) including clinicians from general internal medicine, family medicine, hospital medicine, oncology, hospice and palliative care, critical care, geriatrics, nephrology and cardiology.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Give examples on discussing prognosis of patients’ experiencing serious life-limiting illness.
- Review new pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic management options available to palliate common symptoms associated with serious life-limiting illness.
- Assess psychosocial suffering associated with serious life-limiting illness in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
- Summarize risk factors associated with decreased or insufficient goal concordant care at end of life.
- Identify demographic, psychosocial, and racial factors that are associated with decreased access to effective hospice and palliative care.

To receive the special rate of $425 (plus applicable taxes and fees) for a standard room, reservations must be made before the room block is filled or before the expiration date of April 8, 2025, whichever comes first. After April 8, 2025, 2024, reservations will be taken based on space and rate availability.
Resort Fee
There is an additional charge of $10.00 per room per night plus tax that is not included in the above room rates.
