Bladder-Sparing Trimodality Therapy for Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer:  Updates & Advances

Learning Objectives:

  • Apply results from prospective randomized trials and large institutional experiences supporting trimodality bladder-sparing therapy as a proven alternative to cystectomy for selected patients.
  • Review the treatment paradigm for bladder preservation and its evolution, the role of concurrent chemotherapy, and the importance of early salvage cystectomy when indicated.
  • Recognize clinical factors as well as biomarkers associated with response and outcome to bladder-sparing therapy.
  • Review potential toxicities and effects on quality of life associated with bladder-sparing therapy.
