Point-of-Care Ultrasound Workshop, October 18, 2017

This introductory workshop is designed for clinicians interested in exploring the use of point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound and performing ultrasound examinations on live models with bedside instruction. Participants also will have an opportunity to perform focused cardiac, abdominal (FAST), thoracic, vascular, skin, joint , and lumbar spine.
The registration fee includes tuition, pre-course syllabus, lunch and break refreshments.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this session, participants should be able to:
- Visualize the heart in at least two different windows and assess global contractility.
- Identify the pericardium and describe the appearance of a pericardial effusion.
- Visualize the pleura and identify a pneumothorax and pleural effusion.
- Visualize normal anatomy of normal and deceased lung.
- Visualize the inferior vena cava and estimate central venous pressure based on measurement of the diameter and collapsibility.
- Visualize the internal jugular (IJ) vein and demonstrate how to distinguish the IJ from the carotid artery.
