Workshop IV: Manual Lymphatic Drainage with Compression (including myofascial release)
This workshop will introduce 2 novel therapy approaches for the speech-language pathologist treating patients who are recovering from head and neck cancer. Theoretical framework for the treatment modalities of manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) with compression and myofascial release will be presented. Participants will learn the basics of these techniques and observe hands-on demonstration from the instructors. A discussion of medical conditions that are amenable to these advanced treatments will be included. This workshop is not intended to replace a certification course that is required before use of these methods.
Learning Objectives
Following attendance at this workshop, participants should be able to:
- Identify presence of lymphedema in head and neck.
- Explain techniques of manual lymphatic drainage and the use of compression garments.
