Mayo Clinic Talks Podcast: Troponin Edition

Hospital Internal Medicine

The FDA has approved the use of a fifth generation, high sensitivity troponin assay. Many facilities in the United States will begin to use this new assay which has significant clinical implications for healthcare teams in the emergency department, cardiology, hospital medicine, surgery, and many other inpatient and outpatient practices. There will also be changes in hospital flow and census related to this new test. It is essential for the practitioner to understand how the new troponin assay varies from the previous iteration. This series of three podcasts will review the assay itself, the impact on the emergency department, and inpatient issues.
