Hospital Medicine is a growing medical specialty that requires a diverse skill set. Hospital-based health care providers must be able to diagnose and manage a wide variety of clinical conditions, coordinate transitions of care, provide perioperative management to surgical patients and contribute to quality improvement and hospital administration. This program has been specifically designed to ensure that participants augment their skill set to meet these many challenges in an effort to enhance the delivery of health care and provide better patient outcomes.

Target Audience
This program is designed for inpatient care providers including physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Internal medicine and family practice, among others, are specialties that have practitioners who care for hospitalized patients.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Select the appropriate venous catheter for a hospitalized patient
- List appropriate indications for a PICC when discharging a medical inpatient requiring home IV access
- Describe causes of elevated troponin beside myocardial infarction
- Differentiate mesenteric ischemia from ischemic colitis
- Select the appropriate intravenous fluid for the treatment of acute pancreatitis
- Identify common and life-threatening causes of thrombocytopenia in the hospitalized patient
- Apply a framework for the evaluation of hypoxia in the hospitalized patient
- Summarize the management of bleeding in a patient on a direct oral anticoagulant
- List the highest yield tests to evaluate cardiac risk in a patient undergoing non-cardiac surgery
- Diagnose urinary tract infection in a patient with a urethral catheter
- Select the appropriate imaging for a patient with suspected stroke
- Develop an approach for the evaluation of generalized weakness in a hospitalized patient

Check-in time is 4:00 p.m.; checkout time is 12:00 p.m. Bell staff can check baggage for guests arriving early when rooms are not yet available and for guests attending functions on the day of departure. Hotel facilities are available for use by guests in either circumstance.
Attendees are responsible for their own reservations. Individual reservations cancelled within forty-eight (48) hours prior to the arrival date will be assessed a one-night room and tax penalty charge, and will be placed on the account that guarantees the reservation. In the event that a guest checks out prior to the guest’s reserved checkout date, an early departure fee of one (1) night room and tax will be charged to the guest’s individual account. Guests wishing to avoid this fee must advise hotel at or before check-in of any change in the scheduled length of stay.
