Electromyography (EMG) & Neurophysiology in Clinical Practice 2020 - January 28-31
Course Directors: Julie A. Khoury, M.D. and Amy Z. Crepeau, M.D.
This conference offers the option to attend the EMG session only, the EEG session only or both EMG/EEG together. Attendees will be provided with a review of clinical neurophysiology techniques and topics, including: basic physiology, pathophysiology, electroencephalography, evoked potentials, electromyography, movement disorders and intraoperative monitoring. There is a focus on clinical correlation of various neurophysiological tests used for patient evaluation regarding epilepsy, sleep disorders, movement disorders, peripheral nerve and neuromuscular disorders. There are three Demonstration Workshops included for EMG participants:
- Nerve Conduction Studies
- Needle EMG
- Miscellaneous NCS/EMG

Target Audience
This course is designed for practitioners (MD, DO, NP, PA, RN) interested in the clinical practice of neurophysiology, including both basic and advanced theory and practice. Practitioners looking for a comprehensive review of the CNP or wishing to advance their knowledge base in these areas are encouraged to attend.
Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this entire program, participants should be able to:
- CompletIdentify commonly encountered interictal & ictal epileptiform findings on EEG
- Review benign variants commonly mistaken for epileptiform activity on EEG
- Distinguish epileptiform activity from non-epileptiform activity seen in EEG
- Interpret the findings and clinical significance of abnormalities on EEG studies
- Identify EEG patterns for different spell types that can be seen during video EEG monitoring
- Review the indications for long-term EEG monitoring in the acute hospital setting
- Evaluate reading skills of routine EEG recognizing potentially confounding normal variants, artifacts and normal waveforms vs. epileptiform activity
- Recognize & interpret the significance of EMG waveforms on needle EMG
- Develop logical approach to the use of standard clinical electrophysiological techniques in the evaluation of common & uncommon neuromuscular disorders
- Develop an approach to the use of the EMU
- Review the application of ultrasound in assessment of neuromuscular disorders
