COURSE DESCRIPTION

Over the last decade, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval for several biosimilars to many medications that have historically made up a majority of drug spend for hospitals. Transitioning clinical practice to include these and replace more expensive reference products has generated some pause due to uncertain clinical implications and logistic concerns or other barriers. However, the potential for significant cost savings prompts more consideration into exploring implementation efforts, economic effects and patient outcomes.

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based CE session, participants should be able to:

  1. Review pharmacoeconomic effects of biosimilar incorporation into clinical practice
  2. Identify clinical areas where implementation of biosimilars may be most cost effective
  3. Evaluate literature reviewing clinical outcomes for patients transitioned to biosimilar agents
