This conference will provide a state-of-the-art discussion on comprehensive evaluation and management of dysphagia related to head and neck cancer and neurological disorders, as well as a thorough assessment of laryngeal hyper-responsiveness, including chronic cough.

We are proud to present a faculty of world-renowned experts in the field of laryngology, dysphagia, and laryngeal hyper-responsiveness from across the country. The course format will include evidence-based lectures, panel discussions with case presentations, and the opportunity to interact with Mayo and Guest faculty members.The intended audience includes: Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners and Speech-Language Pathologists. Specialists are welcome in the areas of Otorhinolaryngology, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Speech-Language Pathology, Allergy, Gastroenterology, Pulmonology and Neurology.
The program is based on a multidisciplinary team approach, with presentation topics including:

• Skill Acquisition in Volitional Laryngeal Control

• Dysphagia Evaluation and Treatment in Head and Neck Cancer

Course Materials
Your registration fee includes access to a detailed online syllabus, emailed one week prior to the conference. This allows you to download the syllabus prior to the conference.
Activity Evaluation
Webcast participants will be sent an email with the electronic evaluation links via email at the beginning of each day.
The evaluation is very brief and will only take a few minutes to complete. Your feedback is very important and will be used for planning future educational programs.
At the end of the webcast, you will be asked to complete a Record of Attendance (emailed to you) with the number of hours you participated.

Course Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:
1.) Identify common laryngoscopic findings in the diagnosis of laryngeal hypersensitivity.
2.) Integrate breathing techniques for management of paradoxical vocal fold motion into their therapy services.
3.) Identify neural structures involved in swallowing and the functions that they control.
4.) Describe common characteristics of dysphagia that are secondary to neurological disorders.
5.) Develop a protocol for the assessment and treatment of dysphagia associated with head and neck cancer.
6.) Identify lymphedema of the face and neck, explain the rational for manual lymphatic drainage and decompression therapy, and make appropriate referrals for the management of lymphedema.
7.) Identify the proper role of office-based dysphagia evaluation.
8.) Differentiate appropriate utilization of therapeutic and surgical management of dysphagia.

Mayo Clinic College of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
