Live Webcast - Southwest Laryngology Conference: Focus on Complex Cases 2018

This conference will provide state-of-the-art discussion and instruction on comprehensive evaluation and management of laryngeal-related disorders and corresponding rehabilitation techniques. The meeting will offer a multi-disciplinary approach on a wide variety of voice and swallowing topics, surgical procedures, cancer management, airway issues, techniques for post-surgical swallow rehabilitation and post laryngectomy voice restoration. Pulmonary medicine, integrative medicine and palliative care will be addressed from an M.D., clinician and research perspective.

Course format will include evidence-based lectures, multidisciplinary panel discussions with case presentations and Q & A, live demonstrations, and interactions with Mayo Clinic faculty and guest faculty. NEW THIS YEAR! Target Audience

This course is designed for physicians/surgeons, mid-level health care providers, otolaryngology residents, and speech & language pathologists in the southwest, across the country, and internationally (Mexico and Europe). Specialties include: general surgery, otorhinolaryngology, internal medicine, speech-language pathology, neurology, gerontology and radiation-oncology.

Learning Objectives

Upon conclusion of this program, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss new surgical strategies for chronic dysphagia refractory to therapy.
  • Discuss holistic approaches in rehabilitation of patients not responding to traditional voice therapy.
  • Explain surgical approaches for complex airway reconstruction cases.
  • Describe manual therapy approaches for chronic muscle tension dysphonia and dysphagia.
  • Describe techniques for respiratory training to improve swallowing and voice.
  • Identify surgical and non-surgical treatment modalities for head and neck cancer.
