Pharmacotherapy for Youth Substance Use Disorders: Are We There Yet?

Introduction

Kevin M. Gray, M.D., is Professor and Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina.  Dr. Gray has maintained continuous National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding throughout his career, contributing novel advances to treatments for cannabis and tobacco use disorders in adolescents and young adults. Dr. Gray is Co-Chair of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) Substance Use Committee, serves on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and is a standing member of the NIH Interventions to Prevent and Treat Addictions (IPTA) Study Section.  He serves as Chair of the Advisory Committee for the AACAP Physician Scientist Program in Substance Abuse K12 Award program. Within MUSC, Dr. Gray serves as Chair of the MUSC Hospital Credentials Committee and is a member of the Medical Executive Committee. In addition to maintaining an active clinical practice, Dr. Gray is dedicated to MUSC’s educational mission, providing didactic instruction across training programs and mentoring multiple junior faculty, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and students in clinical research.

  2. Recognize evidence-based pharmacological strategies targeting adolescent substance use disorders
  3. Recognize evidence-based pharmacological strategies targeting psychiatric conditions for adolescents with co-occurring substance use disorders
